Thyroid Elastography
Elastography is an imaging technique that painlessly, easily, quickly, and without biological impact, examines the stiffness and elasticity of a given area, primarily in relation to the surrounding tissue. It is based on the principle that a stiffer area has a higher likelihood of malignancy. This principle is similar to the method of palpating organs, except that elastography can also be applied to small, non-palpable lesions.
Elastography is performed as a complement to thyroid ultrasound and requires no preparation. If a previous elastography has been done, comparing it with the current examination is very important. The procedure is carried out with the patient lying on their back, with the head in hyperextension. The patient should avoid swallowing and speaking during the examination.
It is recommended to contact the Diagnostic Center you will visit for clarifications on preparation, as it may vary based on the patient's history.
