What for - Free Colonoscopy for the Prevention of Colorectal Cancer
Affidea diagnostic centers participate in the preventive examination program for Colorectal Cancer, offering citizens free preventive examinations easily and quickly.
The goal is the early detection of precancerous lesions or even the disease itself, allowing for immediate intervention and treatment. If adenomatous polyps or potential neoplasia are diagnosed and managed at an early stage, they have a 100% cure rate, making early detection extremely critical.
The preventive examination program for colorectal cancer is aimed at all citizens aged 50-69 who have an AMKA (Social Security Number), whether insured or uninsured. A prerequisite for obtaining the self-test is that citizens must not have already been diagnosed with any of the following: adenomatous colon polyps, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, Lynch syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis, or hereditary colorectal cancer. In the case of a positive self-test result, beneficiaries can undergo a free consultation with a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation and proceed with a colonoscopy if needed.
Beneficiaries who have not activated paperless prescriptions can use their AMKA to visit any participating pharmacy in their area and obtain the self-test at no cost.
The Free Examinations Included in the Program Are:
Self-Test for Colorectal Cancer, which can be obtained at pharmacies.
In the case of a positive self-test result:
Visit to a Gastroenterologist for clinical evaluation.
Diagnostic colonoscopy with the Gastroenterologist’s approval.
If findings are detected:
Removal of polyps on the spot, when feasible, and biopsy sampling.
Biopsy analysis.
It should be noted that no prescription is required. Beneficiaries receive their referral and only need to schedule their appointment.
